I am not an ultralight hiker, nor do I ever expect I will be. Currently my winter base weight is at 26.12 pounds, spring at 24.51 pounds, and estimated skin out weight including 5 days food and 1.5 liters water at 47.52 pounds. There are plenty of places I know I could shed weight between my pack which weighs in at just over 5 pounds to the bear canister I refuse to hike without. Coming up with a packing list has been a constant battle between weight, comfort, convenience, cost, and environmental impact. I fully expect this list will continue to be refined as I hike, because inevitably there will be things I was willing to take on a 3 night hike that after 1 month seem completely unnecessary. There are things (like my pack) that I’ve had forever and can’t ever seem to find anything that I like or that fits me as well. I will be adding in sections at the bottom of this page as I have a chance to really put some of the gear I’m using to the test, so check back in for updates. There are a few blanks lingering around as I try to make some final decisions.
Update: Final full pack weight less clothes worn is 35 pounds at Amicolola Falls Visitor Center on 02/02/2020
